Venture capitalist Ben Horowitz, co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz, announced his intention to donate to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign, according to an internal email sent to employees at the firm.
Horowitz, alongside his business partner Marc Andreessen, had previously declared their financial support for a pro-Trump super PAC in July. However, this was before Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for president.
In the email, Horowitz explained his decision, citing a long-standing personal relationship with Harris. “Felicia and I have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years, and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time,” Horowitz wrote, referring to his wife. The email was first reported by Axios.
“As a result of our friendship, Felicia and I will be making a significant donation to entities supporting the Harris-Walz campaign,” Horowitz added, indicating his shift in political backing.
Despite their recent donation to support Trump’s campaign, both Horowitz and Andreessen have refrained from formally endorsing any candidate for the 2024 election.
Their support for Trump was primarily driven by what they referred to as his "Little Tech agenda," focused on policies that favor smaller technology companies.
In a July 5 blog post, the two co-founders emphasized that the firm's political involvement is limited to issues directly affecting the tech sector. “We do not engage in political fights outside of issues directly relevant to Little Tech,” they wrote.
The tech investors have been vocal critics of the Biden administration, particularly regarding its stance on startups and cryptocurrency regulation. While Horowitz expressed optimism about Harris following discussions with her and her team, he noted that Andreessen Horowitz as a firm would not be altering its official position until more details about the Harris campaign’s tech policy are made clear.
