Cyberattack Disrupts Hospital Operations Across Five States, Forces Emergency Room Closures

A cyberattack on Thursday has caused disruptions to hospitals and clinics in five states, leading to the closure of several emergency rooms.

Prospect Medical Holdings, which operates the affected facilities, reported the cyberattack across their locations in California, Texas, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania.

The company swiftly responded to the attack by taking its systems offline to safeguard them. "We have initiated an investigation into the cyberattack with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts," the company announced in a statement on Friday.

The statement also emphasized their commitment to patient care amidst the ongoing investigation. "While we continue our probe, our main concern is tending to our patients' urgent requirements and making concerted efforts to resume regular operations at the earliest."

The cyberattack has had widespread effects, not just impacting emergency rooms but also causing the shutdown of certain primary care services and rerouting ambulances.
